Description
IGF-1 LR3 (Long R3 IGF-1) is an analog of insulin-like growth factor 1, modified at the N-terminus with a 13-amino-acid extension and an arginine substitution at position 3. That modification is the whole point: it dramatically reduces binding to the IGF binding proteins (IGFBPs) that normally tie up native IGF-1 in circulation, so LR3 stays free and bioavailable much longer in research models. Roughly 2-3x more potent than native IGF-1 in study panels, with a half-life around 20-30 hours versus minutes for the native peptide.
Why researchers reach for the LR3 form. Native IGF-1 is hard to study because 99% of it gets bound by IGFBPs (mainly IGFBP-3) within seconds of circulation. LR3 dodges that, which makes it useful for clean signaling studies on the IGF-1 receptor and downstream PI3K/Akt and mTOR pathways. Research literature focuses on muscle protein synthesis, satellite cell activation, and glucose uptake mechanisms.
